Amazing Easter Sail with Vega

By far THE  best thing I have gotten out of the years of writing this blog is connections, insights, friendships. The best ones are those which contact you one day about the boat, our journey, or some other interest – and then comes the day you dock your boats together and finally share a real-life sun-downer together overlooking spectacular views. Such was the way with SY Vega. Many years ago when we just had started cruising the Med on our Moody 425 Happy Dancer, Rich and Heather contacted us wondering whether we’d recommend a Moody 425 to cruise ‘en famille’. Sure we did. Fast forward a few months, they had found their own beautiful SY Vega.

Whilst we constantly just missed each other when sailing the Med, once back home in Sydney we shared many a stories (and boy, between two sailing families there’s more than a few some of which both our blogs can only give glimpses of!). So last Friday, thanks to Rich’s glamorous idea that, although we love them, a sail up the coast without the kids might be a safer (and let’s face it, more relaxing) option with a boat that has just come out of the dock with a new engine and a few other fixed bits and bobs (gee, Sydney prices aren’t like Greece or Turkey, I can tell you, it hurts!!! In the Med BOAT might stand for ‘Bring on another thousand’ – down under it’s more like ‘… another ten thousand’), him and I sailed Rigy (I know, an intro is overdue but it will come in due time) from Sydney Harbour to Pittwater. Perfect motorsail, no issues, one of the most relaxing days of this year so far, to tell you the truth.

Near the Basin, which was completely over-crowded with keen Easter Sailors, we joined the rest of our family crews and spent the following days cruising up into the Hawksbury River together. What can I say? It’s like switching of your screens and starting to feel the connection again. Can’t wait for next weekend now that my baby is moored a mere 10minutes’ drive from our new home (yes, another overdue story) on NSW’s stunning Central Coast. More soon. Love always. Posts sometimes;) Yoga, Sailing and Family first!

  1. Nice to get your post, Dini. It has been a while. Having left the rat race and now living aboard and sailings without a schedule, we enjoy the flow. You can do so much more with so much less!
